Fernilious (Fern) is a 4 year old spayed female. She is 21" from her shoulders to the floor and weighs 45 lbs.
Fern is a beautiful 4-year-old female pure-bred Border Collie, who's not just a pet but a member of the family. Fern is extremely affectionate, and profoundly intelligent. Her skills are beyond ordinary; she learns names, follows complex commands like "give the ball to your friend," and picks up quickly on new commands. She's potty trained, leash trained, and has great recall. At home, Fern is the ultimate cuddler and always wants to have her paw or her head resting on you. Fern is also a spirited companion outdoors, craving regular exercise and mental stimulation. She's in her element when exploring and engaging in activities that challenge her physically and mentally. She loves running around off-leash in the forest and at the beach, but will always make sure you are within eyesight and will always run back to you every few minutes for kisses and a pat.
Fern’s exceptional intelligence and deep sensitivity not only make her incredibly attuned to the emotions and routines of her humans, forming a profound companionship, but these same qualities also contribute to her nervousness and anxiety, as she is highly perceptive of changes and unfamiliar situations. As a border collie, she requires a patient and understanding human companion who can offer her the comfort and reassurance she needs. For Fern, a home environment free of other pets and children is where she can truly thrive. In such a setting, she’s able to receive the attention and care she needs to feel secure and loved. Despite her initial hesitation with strangers and new experiences, Fern is extremely calm and well-behaved at home.
Our family dynamics are changing with the arrival of a new baby, and we find ourselves unable to provide Fern with the time and attention she needs. She is also not getting along with our other family dog, which requires extra supervision that we will no longer be able to provide. We are heartbroken but know that this is the best decision for Fern. She’s ready to make a seamless transition into her new home, provided she can have her humans all to herself. If you're looking for a loyal, loving, and smart furry friend who will be your shadow and bring endless joy and companionship, Fern is waiting to meet you.
Fern is living in Berkeley.
