BADGER IS A 1 YEAR OLD NEUTERED MALE. HE IS 19" FROM HIS SHOULDERS TO THE FLOOR AND WEIGHS 50 POUNDS.
BADGER is a ranch-bred short-haired border collie, whelped 11/28/22, 50 lbs, neutered male available for adoption in CA Bay Area. I also make regular trips to the Truckee/Reno area and am willing to drive up to 200 miles to find this guy the right home. Badger is almost exactly one year old, is up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm preventative, flea/tick control and is microchipped. He is housebroken and crate-trained. Knows commands “sit, wait, stay, lie down, off, let’s go (heel), go to your place, crate, come, that’ll do” and “come by” and “away” on cones. He is beginning to understand individual commands when working more than one dog simultaneously. He has not been exposed to stock (except horses) since January 2022. Knows to stay clear of horse hooves. Exceptionally chase-motivated, and LOVES retrieving a ball. Not particularly treat-motivated, so I have trained him with tennis balls and tug toys as a reward. Typical of many BC’s, Badger can exhibit compulsive behaviors like circling and pattern running when confined in a yard. He will definitely chase cats and squirrels but can be called off indoor cats. EXTREMELY reactive to moving vehicles and may nip if over-excited. Still has many goofy puppy behaviors. He’s happiest when out on a trail where there are no cars, or playing fetch with a long-chucked ball. He's currently living with an elderly female BC, who tolerates his puppy energy (to a point). He also lives with a BC-savvy cat who holds his own against the dogs. Badger is fine with our pre-teen son who knows how to behave with herding dogs, but I would not recommend Badger for a home with very young or non-herding dog savvy children. He will follow people around the house, lie on the kitchen floor (usually right in the way when you’re trying to make dinner), but is happy to relax in his crate, too. He will occasionally snuggle on the couch, but only if there’s not something else to keep him busy.
Badger is living in Kensington.
