Basil is a 3.5 year old neutered male. He is 21.5" from his shoulders to the floor and weighs 50 pounds.
Basil is well socialized and had consistent and extensive amount of training growing up using positive reinforcement and clicker training. He has great house manner, potty trained, crate trained, super smart, loves agility, walk on leash nicely and can be off leashed. He learns new things very fast, and always listening to what you're saying whether you want it or not. He's independent and sticky at the same time. He enjoys hiking, city walk or just hanging out on the couch.
His problems:
He was resource guarding around food since day one. We were able to train it out of him(toward people) when he’s around 6 months old, but he still guards against other dogs.
He’s very affectionate, and super friendly to strangers, but only when he initiates it, and does not like being hugged. His biggest problem is unpredictability. He’s super nice and sweet 95% of the time, and gets comments such as “well behaved, friendly & sweet” all the time on the street. Although very rare, he can show aggression without warning(trigger unknown, so far all of our trainers and behaviorist failed to identify). He’s currently on Venlafaxine prescribed by behaviorist from UC Davis.
Basil is living in Redwood City.
